How it Works

Using a custom tablet with artificial intelligence and computer vision to track movement, the platform can correct the service member’s form in real time and adapt the program as they make progress. A licensed clinician asynchronously monitors movement data, adjusts the care plan as needed, and securely communicates with the service member through the app.

With this platform, care for injuries starts in days, not weeks. The platform is available around the clock, which means physical therapy fits around training, field exercises, and operational demands. Service members keep the device and can use it across multiple injuries over the course of a year. The result is consistent, on-demand access to a specialist.

The system is serving as a force multiplier for DHA physical therapy. The platform adds clinic capacity—by moving less-complex cases to the virtual environment, it frees up our clinician’s time to focus on complex cases in person.

Next Steps

The platform is available at select clinics with pilot findings showing huge success: significantly reduced patient wait times for care and loss duty days. This is a big step towards sustaining warfighter health and readiness.

We’re committed to leveraging innovative technology to support our warfighters. DHA is looking to expand innovative programs like this for all service members in the next few years.
