Our teams at local hospitals or clinics run into challenges – challenges that could be addressed swiftly with just a bit of support. We believe we can boost productivity, achieve efficiencies, and potentially make lasting changes by capitalizing on locally driven, practical, and innovative solutions. By doing so, DHA hopes that our teams will feel empowered, and able to contribute more effectively towards our mission to advance health and build readiness.
Flipping the Script
Our goal with the Innovation Fellowship Program is to provide our frontline teams a greater sense of agency by harnessing their lived experiences and insights in the delivery of safe, quality health care for our nation’s warfighters.
The program is designed to ultimately empower emerging leaders to address the challenges they experience in their day-to-day work. These include military or civilian teammates at the point of care or in operational positions in a DHA hospital or clinic.
How it Works
- Prospective fellows apply to the program with a “pitch” that attempts to address a local-level problem.
- Pitches are reviewed on a rolling basis based on relevance, feasibility, impact, and scalability across the DHA.
- Once a pitch is selected, fellows receive:
- Moderate funding for testing and prototyping
- An FTE deduction with their supervisor’s approval, which allows fellows to dedicate up to 25% of their time to their project
- A network of mentors with subject matter expertise
