FORT RUCKER, Ala. — The Lyster Army Health Clinic Laboratory has successfully achieved accreditation from the College of American Pathologists, demonstrating a continued commitment to clinical excellence and patient safety across the Fort Rucker military community.

CAP accreditation is widely recognized as the gold standard in laboratory quality assurance. The rigorous accreditation process evaluates whether a facility meets stringent standards across clinical testing, comprehensive quality management, staff qualifications, equipment maintenance, operational procedures, and patient safety protocols.

During the comprehensive on-site inspection, inspectors evaluated the clinic’s laboratory against more than 1,000 rigorous CAP standard requirements. The laboratory received only two minor findings, representing less than 0.2% of all requirements reviewed—translating to a compliance rate exceeding 99.8%. The laboratory team immediately addressed both items through the formal corrective action process.

“This achievement belongs entirely to our laboratory team,” said Whitney Wimbush, Chief of Laboratory Services at Lyster. “The team’s attention to detail, commitment to continuous improvement, and dedication to our patients are what make this laboratory strong. We are proud of their daily work to ensure safe, high-quality care, and we are grateful to everyone who helped make this milestone possible.”

CAP accreditation reassures service members, retirees, and military families that the Lyster Army Health Clinic Laboratory adheres to the highest operational standards in modern laboratory medicine, ensuring accurate and dependable diagnostic results.
