Brig. Gen. Jonathan C. Taylor assumed duties as Commanding General of Medical Readiness Command, West and Director of Defense Health Network West in August 2026 while concurrently serving as the Deputy Commanding General for U.S. Army Medical Command (MEDCOM). His previous assignments were MEDCOM Special Assistant to the Surgeon General for Support, Commandant of Academy Health Sciences and the Commander of Madigan Army Medical Center and Director of the Puget Sound Military Health System at Joint Base Lewis-McCord in Tacoma, Washington. He served in various leadership and staff positions including Command Surgeon, U.S. Africa Command; Commander, U.S. Army Aeromedical Research Laboratory; Division Surgeon, 10th Mountain Division; Executive Officer to the Deputy Surgeon General; Special Assistant to the Surgeon General; Deputy Command Surgeon, Special Operations Task Force U.S. Army Special Operations Command (Airborne); Officer in Charge, Womack Army Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Clinic; Assistant Program Director and Faculty at Womack; Detachment Commander (forward) in support of the Multinational Hospital in Kandahar; and Clinic Commander, Büdingen Health Clinic, Germany.
Taylor graduated as a Distinguished Military Cadet from Duke University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (cum laude) in 1995. He received his medical degree from University of Virginia School of Medicine in 1999 as an Alpha Omega Alpha scholar. He completed his residency in family medicine at Womack Army Medical Center in 2002. He also completed a master’s in business administration from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 2020. He is a graduate of the Army Medical Department Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, and has completed a fellowship at the U.S. Army War College with duty at the Department of Health and Human Services in the Office of National Coordination for Health Information Technology.
Taylor’s awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (2OLC), Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3OLC), the Expert Field Medical Badge, Army Flight Surgeon Badge, Army Parachutist Badge, Army Space Badge, the Army Staff Badge, the German Parachutist Badge, and the Order of Military Medical Merit.
Taylor grew up in a military family and is the son of a career Army Officer and Civil Servant.
