Dr. Jesus J. Caban is the Chief Data and Analytics Officer at the Defense Health Agency, Falls Church, Virginia. He serves as the principal advisor to the DHA Deputy Director on all matters related to data, analytics, and artificial intelligence. In this role, Caban is responsible for leading the implementation of a comprehensive data strategy for the DHA, which includes establishing safeguards, controls, and guidelines for the responsible use of AI aligned with the DOW AI Strategy.
As a Health Informatics and IT leader with over 14 years of leadership experience supporting and guiding enterprise healthcare data capabilities, Caban is recognized across the DOW and other federal agencies as a subject matter expert in MHS data.
In previous roles, Caban oversaw and managed a large portfolio of enterprise capabilities, including the MHS Digital Biobank (enterprise bioinformatics and genomics capabilities), MHS Patient Registries, MHS Common Data Model, DAVINCI (DOW/VA data exchange service), several AI/ML projects, data science literacy, and the implementation, testing, and rollout of enterprise data science capabilities used by analysts and researchers across Health Affairs, the Defense Health Agency, and the Uniformed Services University.
Caban is an accomplished researcher with over 50 scientific publications and currently serves as adjunct faculty.
