Cooperative Research and Development Agreements

Agreements between a government and non-government entity to collaborate on research and development projects to share resources and expertise and potentially commercialize the results.

  • Material Transfer Agreement: A contract that governs the transfer of research materials between organizations.
  • Commercial Test and Evaluation Agreement: An agreement allowing a private company to use federal government resources to test or evaluate their commercial product or technology.
  • Educational Partnership Agreement: An agreement between a federal laboratory and an educational institution to encourage and enhance science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education.
  • Patent Licensing Agreement: A contract granting permission from the patent holder (licensor) to another party (licensee) to use, make, or sell a patented invention. In exchange, the licensee typically pays royalties or other fees to the patent holder.

Other Agreements

  • Memorandum of Understanding: A written document that expresses a mutual understanding or intention between two or more parties.
  • Memorandum of Agreement: Like an MOU, an MOA is a written document that outlines an agreement between two or more parties. It is generally more formal and detailed than an MOU and may include specific obligations and responsibilities.
  • Interagency Agreement: An agreement between two or more government agencies (federal, state, or local) to work together on a specific project or share resources.
